Just in Time for the Holiday Season
by Shirley B.

top of page
A woman was asked by a co-worker, "What is it like to be a Christian?" The co-worker replied, "It is like being a pumpkin. God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you. Then he cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. and then he carves you a new smiling face and puts his light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

What is Identity Theft?
Identity Theft occurs when someone uses your name, address, Social Security Number (SSN), bank or credit card account number, or other identifying information without your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes.
How can someone steal my identity?
Identity thieves may use a variety of low and high tech methods to gain access to your personally identifying information. For example:
  • Stealing Records from their employer
  • Hacking into business computers
  • Rummaging through your trash, the trash of businesses
  • Stealing purses and wallets containing identification, credit and bank cards
  • Stealing mail
  • Complete a "Change of Address Form" to divert mail to another location
  • Steal personal information from your home
    How to Protect Yourself
  • Get a shredder and shred all personal information
  • Don't carry your SS Card in your purse or wallet
  • Order a copy of your credit report every year
  • Do not give out any personal information over the phone, unless you have called the business
  • Take your name off the mailing lists and offers for pre approved credit, you can call 1-888-567-8688 this one call is shared with 3 credit bureaus

Another worm is in the wild! The Welchia Worm is out and is infecting computers that have not been properly patched by going to Windows Update . Worms and Viruses do not come from your Internet Provider, they come from the Internet. This worm is affecting Windows, Mac, and Linux users. Verisign Temporarily Suspends Site Finder
    by Katrina Moran

    top of page
Verisign temporarily suspends Site Finder. Site Finder served as a "Wild Card" service; that redirects Web traffic that would otherwise result in a "no domain" or "page not found" response. For example, when users search for incorrect or nonexistent Web addresses, the service sends those users to a Versign-operated site with links to alternative choices and to a search engine. ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is calling for Site Finder to be suspended for the time being, while it works out what effect the system is having on other internet users.

    Joke Of the Month
    by Shirley B.

    top of page
A guy was sitting quietly reading his paper when his wife walked up behind him and whacked him on the head with a frying pan. "What was that for?" he asked. "That was for the piece of paper in your pocket with the name Mary Lou written on it," she replied. "Two weeks ago when I went to the races, Mary Lou was the name of one of the horses I bet on," he explained. "Oh honey, I'm sorry," she said. "I should have known there was a good explanation." Three days later he was watching a ball game on TV when she walked up and hit him in the head again, this time with the iron skillet, which knocked him out cold. When he came to his senses, he asked, "What was that for?" She replied, "Your horse called!"

    Recipes for the Season
    by Carol Hall

    top of page
The FOOD SEASON is upon us... The holiday season is here...and with that come many wonderful goodies and treats. However, if you are like me, eating is easy, cooking is not! On a recent summer outing, my family and I experienced the thrill of deep sea fishing! However, when we arrived home with our ice chest full of fish fillets...I was baffled as to how to prepare them? That is when I came accros a great site: RecipeLand This site is FREE, and it contains thousands of easy to search for recipes. You can use the site as an "unregistered user" to view and search for recipes, or you can choose to "register" (FREE) to use some of the other cool features, like a personalized recipe box! You can search for recipes by ingredients, category (Crock Pot, Quick and Easy, Low-Fat, etc.) title and such. Check it out!

    Question Of the Month
    by BMI Staff

    top of page
Q: How to "surf" the Internet?
  • Click on your browser ie: Internet Explorer, Netscape
  • In the address bar, type in www.bmi.net and click enter
  • On the BMI homepage, scroll down and look to the left, you'll see BMI's Searching Page
  • Click on BMI's Searching Page
  • We have alot of different search engines that you can use to find what you are looking for on the internet.
  • Click on one of the Search Engines, for example GOOGLE
  • In the blank bar, type in whatever you are searching for. For example, if you want to find websites that have information on dogs, you can type in dogs and hit search. That will bring up all the websites that have to do with dogs. To go to a website that was found in that list, simply click on the heading and it should pull up that webpage for you.
You can also find books on the Internet. The best book that I have came across is The Internet for Dummies, by John R. Levine you can pick up a copy of that book online or at a computer store near you!
